Case Study: Data Cleansing Service

A medium sized business that dealt with security issues had two separate stores of data relating to criminal offenses. While they had a pressing need to consolidate the data for their operations, they did not have the resources to have to deal with data quality in-house.

The Problem

There were two legacy systems holding name and address data with unknown levels of accuracy and duplication. The data needed to be standardised, deduplicated and merged into a new database with minimum involvement from the client.

The Solution

An initial Data Quality Assessment identified major data errors that needed manual processing. While those records were taken offline, cleansing, standardisation and deduplication was performed at Mastersoft on the remainder of the dataset. Field mappings for the new database were determined and manually corrected data was reinserted to create the new data store.

The solution was a "black-box" solution - all processing was done at Mastersoft and without requiring client resources or exposing sensitive data externally.
