Case Study: Rapid Addressing 
A national postal service that delivers to over one and a half million households and businesses was now looking to offer address and postcode validation services to consumers over the web.
The Problem
Address and postcode data were available in the Postal Address File (PAF), but there was no system in place that could use it for real-time validation over the web. The web service needed to be accurate, fast and easy to use for consumers.
The Solution
The Mastersoft Rapid Addressing products were implemented and customised to make use of the existing Postal Address File. A web user interface was built that sent search parameters in an XML request to the addressing module and then made search results available to the calling application for display to the consumer.
Where only a partial address was available, the addressing module used matching logic to return a list of possible addresses and postcodes. The matching rules were determined according to the specific characteristics of the national postal system.

Rapid addressing functionality enhances the quality of data at the point of entry and in real-time, allowing a variety of businesses to avoid postal errors and benefit from bulk postal discounts. It also has a positive impact on the operation of the postal system as a whole by reducing the time and effort needed for handling incomplete addresses and ambiguously addressed mail.
